Postoperative Treatment
Following any dental operative procedures it is best not to spit, suck on straws, or smoke. Following extraction, the patient should keep the gauze that was placed on the extraction site, in place for a minimum of ten minutes. After this amount of time the gauze can be removed if there is no more bleeding. If bleeding continues, place more gauze (or a tea bag if gauze is not available) and check again in ten minutes. For the first twenty -four hours post extraction, nothing warm should be placed on the area, as this can lead to swelling. Cold compresses can be used to help minimize swelling. After the first twenty-four hours, warm compresses may be used.

If you have any questions please follow-up with your dentist.
