The Powerlase AT features a very short pulse duration which allows for more tissue relaxation between laser pulses. By allowing more tissue relaxation time, heat is not built up in the tissues and thus there is less need for anesthetic during dental procedures. The laser is also capable of preforming PIPS which is used during root canal procedures to clean the root canal system enabling a higher degree of disinfection .
