Technology

Our office uses several cutting edge technologies to help our patients accomplish their oral health goals. Just a couple of the most exciting are:
  • Microabrasion-this system of cavity preparation allows the patient to have his or her filling done without the use of injection or local anesthesia. It is primarily used on biting surface or exposed sides of teeth. The method involves directing a stream of air and small aluminum oxide particles at the cavity to shape the tooth to hold the restoration. The procedure is not only easier on the patient but allows more conservative preparation of the tooth thereby preserving tooth structure and leaving a stronger tooth. Composite (white) fillings are used with this method.
  • Electronic Anesthesia- this provides a local anesthesia type of feeling by sending light stimuli through small pads that are placed on the patients face. The patient controls the level of stimulation via a small controller which they operate.
  • Computerized Dental Radiography- Since 1995, all of our x-rays are taken using a computer sensor. This method reduces exposure by up to 90% and reduces retakes because the digital image can be manipulated for better quality by the computer.
  • Laser Technology - Laser technology is now used in the diagnosis and treatment of dental disease. Our office uses Diagnodent Lasers to help determine if a tooth is decayed and also the extent of that decay. Early intervention leads to less need for large fillings and subsequently, less broken teeth and the need for extensive and expensive dental work. We also use Hard (Waterlase) and Soft (Twilite) tissue lasers to restore teeth. Rarely is there a need for anesthesia with the Waterlase, as evidenced by the fact that, only eight children since August 2002 have needed and injection to have a white filling done in our office.
